Hawaii Food & Wine Festival attracts national acclaim and rare wines for fall

Three exclusive wine seminars have been added to the lineup for the seventh annual Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival (HFWF) that could boost the event’s standing in a USA Today Wine Festival poll. The Festival is thrilled to welcome for the first time, coveted French wine producers: Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe of Châteauneuf du Pape and Château Cos d’Estournel, one of the greatest Château Estates in Bordeaux, France. Producers of this caliber rarely participate at wine festivals so it’s a win that they have chosen to join HFWF on November 4th, 2017 at The Halekulani Hotel.

“The fact that Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival will be welcoming Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe of Châteauneuf du Pape and Château Cos d’Estournel speaks volumes about the Festival’s reputation,” says Master Sommelier Roberto Viernes. HFWF Chief Executive Officer Denise Yamaguchi adds, “We’re honored to bring these coveted wines and their Producers, to HFWF17 and to be recognized again as one of the nation’s top wine festivals by USA Today.”

HFWF is currently in contention for Best Wine Festival honors in the USA Today 10Best Reader’s Choice Poll. HFWF came in second place last year and hopes to earn the top spot this year. Voting is underway through August 14th 11:59 EDT.

The seminars are limited to 50 people and will offer once-in-a-lifetime wine tastings.

SOMM: A Study into the Terroirs of the Southern Rhone

Daniel Brunier, Proprietor of the famed Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe of Châteauneuf du Pape, and a panel of Master Sommeliers, will lead a blind tasting of some of the finest wines of the Southern Rhone. Master Sommelier Roberto Viernes adds, “It’s inspiring to see so many young Sommeliers in Hawai‘i who have been bitten by the wine bug, so we thought it would be a great idea to have an educational seminar to introduce them to an up front and personal view of the wines from this extraordinary appellation.” All other aspiring wine aficionados will also be welcomed! November 4th from 9:00am to 10:15am.

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf du Pape “La Crau” Vertical Tasting

Vigneron Daniel Brunier and an esteemed panel of Master Sommeliers will host an unforgettable vertical tasting of the extraordinary terroir of “La Crau.” The seminar will feature ten incredible wines from the vintage years from 2000 to 2010. There will also be a surprise guest, who will start the morning with an additional set of awe-inspiring wines! The tasting is November 4th from 10:30am to 12:00pm.

Château Cos d’Estournel Bordeaux Tasting

Cos d’Estournel is one of the greatest wine Estates on the Planet. The wines are extraordinarily rich, intense, and Outer-Worldly, and they are produced from arguably one of the most spectacular Estates in Bordeaux. The Seminar will feature an 8 year vertical tasting of these extraordinary wines with the added bonus of four other “Sleeper” wines. The tasting is from 12:30pm to 2:00pm.

HFWF17 will welcome dozens of renowned winemakers from around the world including Braida from Italy, Champagne J. Lassalle of France, Force Majeure Vineyards from Washington State, Grace Family Vineyards and Opus One Winery from Napa Valley, and Tyler Winery from Santa Barbara.
