87th International White Truffle Fair returns to Alba with the theme “Sliced by Design”

Sliced by design is the theme of the 2017 edition of the international Truffle Fair in its full activity at Alba in the Piedmont region. This year event places the spotlight on design, art, culture, food and wine par excellence. During the long event which ends on November 26 it is foreseen a participation of more than 600 thousand buyers and public.

The International Truffle Fair, a culmination of Piedmont’s food and wine events represents one of the most important factors in its economic development as well as being the main tourism attraction of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, hillsides recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

During the long event, the truffle, named the “Jewel of the Soil” will be centre stage in a rich programme of events which include exhibitions, displays, cookery demo, gastronomic delights and encounters with cultural, musical, literary, folklore and sporting events. The activities will involve Alba and the entire region where year after year, the mystery of the magic of the Tuber magnatum Pico, the precious White Truffle, revives as a unique symbol to these regions of Italy, of a heritage of collective experiences within the restaurant world as well as those of hospitality and the authentic Italian way of life.

At an exhibition promoted by the designer Alberto Alessi entiled “the Truffle” features the innovative Alba White Truffle Kit composed of truffle slicers displays and containers and the projects of 15 designers. The exhibition located at Sala Romana of Palazzo Banca d’Alba is free entrance.

The Alba event is one of the main showcases of Italian gastronomy and excellence. This year Bocus d’Or, the world’s most important Gourmet Arts Competition chose Langhe and Roero to select the chef that will lead Team Italia to the European selection to be held in Turin, June 11&12, 2018. Chefs Paola Griffa, Giuseppe Raciti, Martino Ruggeri and Roberta Zulian have taken up the challenge at the presence of a top-level jury chaired by Enrico Crippa, one of the best Michelin starred chef in the world, according to the Académie International de la Gastronomie who unanimously awarded him the Grand Prix de l’art de la Cuisine.

The most exclusive Eno Gastronomic event of the edition will be the “Ultimate Truffle Dinner”. The idea is to match the Alba White Truffle in an exclusive event presenting unique elements of international cuisine such as oyster, kobe beef, caviar, foi gras, Champagne and Barolo wine.

The dinner will be held on October 25th at the Guido Restaurant owned by Chef Ugo Alciati and November 20 at Flavio Costa’s Ristorate 21.9.

The proceeds of these prestigious events, open to the public, will be allocated to the “Breath of the Truffle” project, the first crowd -funding campaign aimed at safeguarding the natural environment of the Alba White Truffle.

Alba rocking up to the stars

Up to 50 years ago the city of Alba was looked at as the city of boredom.; owing to the development of the intensive truffle production, a hidden treasure, changes have occurred since then gaining the UNESCO label becoming the land of well-being.

The precious tuberous has gone beyond the boundaries of Italy, bringing the destination to the attention of the world.
