Food Network Star “Ace of Cakes” added to Hawaii Food & Wine Festival lineup

tp:The seventh annual Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival (HFWF) has added an ace to its Keiki in the Kitchen® Family Sunday lineup. Ace of Cakes star, Duff Goldman, headlines “HMAA presents Keiki in the Kitchen” on November 5 at Bishop Museum from 9 am-3 pm. Goldman joins returning TV personality Adam Richman and 32 celebrity chef guests for a day of food, fitness, and fun for the whole family.

The Charm City Cakes baker, who became a household name on the hit Food Network series Ace of Cakes, will decorate cupcakes with the first 1,000 children at Bishop Museum. Duff has been cooking since the age of 4, when he would watch Chef Tell, one of the nation’s first TV culinary personalities. He worked in acclaimed restaurants like French Laundry before striking gold with his own bakery in Baltimore.

“Duff is a dynamic personality to inspire our next generation of chefs,” says HFWF Chief Executive Officer Denise Yamaguchi. “The popularity of TV shows about food and competitions featuring young chefs is undeniable so it was important for us to offer more interactive experiences with celebrities and role models who are passionate about cooking and children.”

The Festival is pleased to bring back ‘Roberts Hawaii School Bus presents Keiki Cooking Classes’ after overwhelming response to last year’s sold out sessions. In this hands-on Thanksgiving-inspired cooking class, young chefs will make a chocolate, peanut butter, and banana Chunky Monkey tart and a savory turkey turnover. Cooking classes are $30 and spaces are limited. That covers the $5 event entrance fee and a Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival embroidered Chef Works apron.

The new additions complement the live cook-off for the ‘Hawaii Gas Presents Localicious’ Recipe Contest. The top three finalists will prepare and present their dish live to HFWF celebrity chef judges. The winner in the Grade 4-8 category receives a two-night stay at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. The Grade 9-12 champion wins a two-night stay at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa and a $500 cash scholarship. The deadline for entries is September 30, 2017.

Keiki in the Kitchen® has a full schedule of events. Attendees can get autographs and photos with 32 culinary stars including Michelle Bernstein, David Burke, Josiah Citrin, Celestino Drago, Ben Ford, Rory Herrmann, Alan Wong, and Roy Yamaguchi. Guests can also test their fitness against the chefs, learn about agriculture technology, and explore sustainability and stewardship of planet Earth through the eyes of our farmers and our voyagers.

The crew of the Hōkūle‘a will lead a cooking demonstration and teach children about their worldwide voyage. Families are also invited to enjoy Bishop Museum’s new travelling exhibits The Animation Academy: From Pencils to Pixels and Holo Moana: Generations of Voyaging.
